SUMMARY OF DEPT:
JPMAM’s High Yield FI trading team in Cincinnati executes all the trades for the high yield FI team located in Cincinnati, which currently manages over $35 billion in client assets. The position will augment the existing two high yield debt traders that are based in Cincinnati and will report to the Head of JPMAM Trading located in London.
Trading expertise: the successful candidate will have a high level of involvement in financial markets generally and the high yield debt markets specifically. The candidate will have a solid grounding of bond mathematics and the workings of the high yield debt markets specifically. They will have at least two years experience of managing or trading at either an investment bank, or at a hedge fund or institutional asset manager. They will have a familiarity with core trading technologies (Bloomberg, Tradeweb, Marketaxess) and be capable of adopting new technologies to enhance execution efficiency and information management.
Communication: the trading team works closely with portfolio managers and analysts in Cincinnati. The successful candidate will be able to articulate views and opinions clearly and concisely and over time will be expected to make a full contribution to the investment process, focussing on the impact of changing market/liquidity conditions. More broadly they will have a high level of enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity about markets generally, high yield debt markets specifically, and is able to clearly articulate and promote thoughts and ideas to a broad and diverse audience. In time, they will be expected to play a full part in contributing to the various regular investment meetings and review and to consistently add value to the investment process.
Counterparty management: they will establish strong relationships with our counterparties and be expected to manage those relationships with tact and maturity. The successful candidate will consistently represent industry best practice in terms of execution style and broker interactions.
Experience: the candidate will have at least two years of experience working directly in fixed income markets, on either the buy-side or sell-side. A solid knowledge of bond and high yield debt market fundamentals will be augmented by experience of trading or managing debt in both securities markets (bonds) and the associated exchange and OTC derivatives markets.
Qualifications: at least a first degree (BA/BSc) in economics/finance/math/natural sciences, etc and ideally a further degree (masters, etc). If not already achieved, the candidate will be expected to (continue to) work towards gaining full CFA certification.
